Level 5: Alpha

As you look out across this level, you will be met with a singular sight. A boundless field of bug monsters as far as you can see all look at you in unison like you're the interloper in their world. This view would humble anyone no matter what skill level and can make the best of us all run screaming together. It looks like many of them have even combined to make larger monsters you never thought possible. Worst of all, through the sea of evil you can spot a really small gate in the distance and once again those quality allies are there ready to judge you.

Instead of hanging up your gear and walking away, you have to defeat these little beasties. This means formulating a plan every day to clear out as many sections as you can, remembering that the blighters will crop up again in places you thought were already clean. It's an exhausting journey in this level, but you're not alone—your allies will also stand by your side to vanquish the evil that beset this land. The best you can hope for is to take out as many big ones as you can, for there is never enough time to eradicate them all. You are permitted to curse the mission timer, though, from time to time.

This is the moment they speak about in myths and fables where you have the ultimate showdown against everything you have done. All your sins and virtues are laid bare for everyone to see, and you must face the collective evil, as they must all be dealt with before success can be claimed. This showdown will see its peak, it will reach the sky, and then in the next moment it will start to diminish if you have fought well. Just remember that you're there to kill them, not create more through your actions, which means you must stay ever vigilant. When you finally see the cresting of the waves of monsters, this is not the time to let up. Quite the opposite, it's the time to pour on the steam, powering through the last of them in the knowledge that one day there will be none left.

On the way down to the gate, over a hill of bug monsters, you will have a cathartic moment where you finally see the end of the game in view. It will be a flicker of hope and you will know this game can be finished against all odds. It's a wonderful and horrible moment—you can see success, yet there is an impossible amount of work left to do. There are many more stories to live through and time to tell them when the day is done. Take heart that you have gotten this far.
